Shortly after my family moved to St. John in December 1985, my brother and I met a shaggy blonde kid who would become a friend for life. Galen still lives in the Virgin Islands but made it up to visit us in Colorado last spring. One day he joined me and another friend for a powdery descent off a 13,684-foot peak above Breckenridge.
